Félex was born in 1990 in Caramaja, Mozambique. His family was from a remote village and after his parents died, Félex and his brothers moved in with their grandmother. Félex’s uncle was a teacher living near the orphanage. When he saw that the grandmother was no longer able to handle the boys, he brought Félex and his three brothers to the orphanage.
Life in the orphanage was very different compared to the village Félex came from, and he used electricity, running water, and slept in a bed for the first time. He no longer had to work in the fields for food or walk long distances to find drinking water. Félex became a Christian and discovered that even though his parents had died, God would always take care of him.
Félex is an amazing athlete and soccer player and visitors have loved competing against him and his brothers in various games. He is kind and always looks out for others. After finishing secondary school Félex went to the Young Africa trade school where he took technical classes and learned how to repair refrigeration systems.
Today Félex works at Novos Horizontes, a large poultry company just outside Nampula. He was recently able to buy his own land and build his own house; and he often invites other kids from the orphanage to go hang out there. Félex is a hard worker and a good role model to kids in the orphanage, church, and community. We are delighted to see him every week at church and during holidays and special events.
